After her father's death, Athenie becomes heir to the throne in the Kingdom of Caspian. In order to assume her power, she must first graduate from The Academy of Nobility. She will have to master potions, learn proper royal etiquette, and most importantly, find a proper suitor. Athenie has flunked out of two previous academies, and this one is her last chance to get her MRS. Degree. Otherwise, she relinquishes control of the kingdom to the evil King Mitus, who would enslave her people for gold.

Athenie meets Estella on the first day of the academy and the two become best friends, with Estella tutoring her in their classes. A charming prince named Christopher begins to court Athenie and asks her to the homecoming dance. She thinks she will make her mom proud choosing him as a suitor but doesn't see herself being happy. She decides to forgo her happiness for sake of making her mother proud.

One week before the dance, Estella overhears Christoper and his friends laughing over his prank to court the most uncool girl in school and embarrass her in front of everyone at homecoming. Estelle races back to the dorms, franticly to tell Athenie. Athenie accuses her of lying and being jealous because she hasn't found a suitor. Estella moves dorms and they no longer speak.

The night of the dance, Estella realizes her feelings for Athenie and plans to derail Christopher's plan. Christopher wins homecoming king. While he's on stage, he pulls out a mock crown and shines the spotlight on Athenie. She makes her way over to the stage and just as he declares her queen of the uncool, Estella cuts his mic and plays pretty woman.

Athenie is overcome by emotions. She begins sobbing and runs to Estella. "It's you; it's been you all along. I love you."

And they live happily ever after.
